This script sometimes very useful to count huge number of objects from your ai/eps file correctly. And this is very easy to install-
To install put the script file in your "Applications/Adobe Illustrator CSx/Presets/Scripts" directory, restart Illustrator and call this script from the File > Scripts menu.
P.S Be careful about your complex and grouped objects. suppose you are seeing a ball which you are considering as one object, but the count might show different.
