If someone come to me and ask that question, I ask him several questions. Why do u want to learn design? Did u done any research regarding Design? something like these...If u don't clear about what u r doing, u can't do that job good enough.

And I encourage him so much. Want to give him an overview of design related career. What kind of work & responsibility he has to maintain. How much hard work he needs to do to go to the top position. etc etc.

The fact is that, we don't have so much patience. And we don't want to work hard enough to master one thing. We want to know many thing at a time. We want to get a job of 20k-30k job withing 6 months. And ultimately we loose the path and start over another one like this.

I also often face this question as i am doing freelancing for more than one year and constantly getting clients over online by just sitting in my small room. so this may seems a dream to the normal people, and they ask me how to do that, or how to be a web developer or designer.

All of them think, simply learning softwares is enough to be a designer.so in that case, i simply ask them, do you have passion for designs? do u feel color? do you ever examine the bill board across the road of Dhaka city? they usually surprised by those question and they want to know why i am asking those? The answer is same in all the case....."there will be a time, after leaning all design software, you will face the main challenge....how creative you are....if you think you are minimum level creative then continue learning those software....cz in global arena......each designers have awesome software skill...but creativity...??...not every1 has."

In case of development>>> i suggest them to learn HTML/CSS first. i give them www.w3schools.com site address and ask them to start HTML/CSS. after learning those they ill get their individual path automatically.

You just described it briefly and nicely. We don't have passion for the work, we have passion for money. We all want SHORTCUT to income big amount of money. I believe, don't run after money, money will run after u.

For development, I also suggest w3school. this is the best site I ever got to learn web design. It's pretty easy, simple and enough informative to be a web developer.

There is a rummer around us, HTML is nothing to learn. There is no future for HTML. Most of the IT people neglects it. Which is defiantly a VERY BIG WRONG IDEA.

I have a personal experience regarding this. At my work place, there was a PHP developer called "Mr. A**h**e". I am the only markup guy then and there was tremendous pressure. So, every developer was helping me on this. I just created them the basic layout and they worked on it. The tried to fix the simple bugs if they could, otherwise I looked after them. That "Mr. A**h**e" said, he is not a simple markup guy. So he won't work on any kind of markup issues. And he didn't.

After few months he was kicked out from the job. And few months later, one of my colleague, who worked with him, meet him in an seminar. And my colleague asked him what are u doing now man? And "Mr. A**h**e" said proudly, now I am working on markup heavily. My colleague told him you are an "A**h**e"!

To be honest, I am not a hardcore forum guy. So It seems enough to me what have already.

Clean & simple, using as little visual elements as need, maintaining hierarchy, appealing to eye, super easy for the end user. If u could do that, I think you are creative at ur work.

i saw in your skills that you specialize in CSS3 as well.

I have recently come across this technology but have not yet fully put into practice, honestly speaking, i didn't feel any need to research for this technology to put into practice because I can easily get my work done through CSS2 and its almost compatible with every known famous browsers.

i am not saying that CSS3 wouldn't be helpful, its just that I don't know about it much yet. I would be pleased if you can shed some light on it and tell us why should we switch to CSS3 and its compatibility with other browsers.

Anybody knows CSS, is 1day effort to know the CSS3. It's not NEW technology, it's just some IMPORTANT modification/addition/deletion some piece of selectors, values etc etc on existing CSS. So, anybody can be so called SPECIALIZED (like me ) on CSS3.

Look, we can still work with TABLE BASED LAYOUT (some web sites still have table based layout, and thats pretty fine), anything wrong with that? It's all compatible with every known famous/infamous browsers. And much more easy to get done any kind of web work. Rite? Then why do we use CSS?

Just an example why we should use CSS3. Suppose u need a liquid, rounded-corner box with shade. How much work you have to do that without CSS3? And how much work you have to do that with CSS3?
